People are debating the effective element of the movie is the picture. Some of them are against that "eye candy" theory with the narrative line. How-bloody-fucking-ever, this movie "the atonement" is drawing the story. What I mean about definition of the mutual reaction between picture and scenario of cinema are proven by this movie. Every shot was literary described by visual segments of the memories, reflections, and retrospections. My best shots of this movie are two shots. First of all, before the dinner night, The director was showing the two character's preparations of the dinner joints with montage editing. he cut the shots away with the rhythmical edit with the piano sounds and ambient old typing machine sounds. The reflections of the sun light through windows, Robbie was typing the letter for her. and Cecilia was choosing the dress for the night. That is the great metaphor of the their life, and fate, also beauty of the cinematographic moments in that movie. The second one is the dolly, and motivated moving shots in the sea side of the evacuation scene. Which is the motivated shots in the movie? I guess that shot is just tear the scar off the realistic sympathy of the war, or Robbie's presence of the real world.
I don't know how to describe this things. As I suppose to tell this feeling again, I have to fall in this IAN McEWAN's Novel I believe.
Ladies and Gentlemen, you should watch this.

What is their life and fate? Are they soul mates but destined to be separated by a lie, the war and even class difference. Is that why the director chose to edit that scene where their actions take place simultaneously but separated by time and space?
Do you remember the scene in the woods, where Robbie discovered the dead bodies of the young girls? Robbie's eyes welled up. Do you think that was an act of Brinny's imagination or Robbie did encounter such horror?
We might be easy to get their characteristic feature to judge their life. However, The pointing of the critic of this movie was useless. we were so shocked the sad ending, which was the imaginations of the Cecilia. To me, the all of imaginations about Robbie's time through the war was kind of imaginations for her atonement to begging to Robbie I guess. the girls whom were similar with her age, and outfits that I think it was the representable metaphor of the Cecilia.
